Case Study - Telecommunications
AAPT is a second tier Australian telecom carrier, providing telecommunication services to both business and consumer customers. They wanted to identify opportunities to reduce the costs of their network so they could meet financial year targets.
Solution
Opnetex worked with the client to first understand what cost saving initiatives were already underway. We then ran workshops with key people in the organization to identify areas for further investigation.
Detailed analysis of network design and cost information was then undertaken to quantify each area of opportunity.
Outcome
Opnetex identified and scoped opportunities to save $3.5m per annum in addition to cost saving initiatives already underway. These opportunities included:
- Changes to the configuration of AAPT's network to reduce the cost of transmission services purchased from third parties
- Migration to lower cost access services
- Cancellation of unused services.
Process and system improvements were also recommended, including standardisation of site address information, creating a single point of entry for addresses and provisioning and cancellation process enhancements.
